Guess what? I finally took some time to read the first volume of this so popular trilogy ! And… I must admit I don’t regret.

I had a lovely time with Tris, Four and their other companions, this book was a really good choice for starting my vacation and disconnect from my daily routine.

The post-apocalyptic world was well designed, the author does not tell too few (I did not feel lost), but nor does she tell too much (there is no awfully long and boring description). Quite soon, we find out that this “perfect” society functions with different factions (Abnegation, Dauntless, Candor, Erudite and Amity) and this reminded me of the different districts in The Hunger Games. The Choosing Ceremony also reminded me of HG, but it did not disturb me as I simply loved this movie (yeah, I know… I haven’t read the books yet… don’t shoot!)

With regards to characters, we are following Tris (she is the narrator), but also all the other Dauntless initiates. Tris sometimes seemed a bit too shy to be considered as Dauntless, but this duality/hesitating/questioning makes her more real and captivating. She discovers a whole new way of living and the author did a nice job with her adaptation to this new life.

The other characters all bring something to the story and none of them left me indifferent. Some touched me, some disgusted me, others charmed me…
The romance between some characters is a touch of airiness on this whole heavy-dark world, and though it seemed obvious since the start, even sometimes cliché, it did not disturb me.

I spent a nice time with this book which has loads of elements to please a teenage-young adult public (action, suspense, romance, quest…) Some elements seemed too obvious for a more adult public, but in the end this book brought me exactly what I was looking for at that time, i.e. total disconnection from the daily work routine, and I really enjoyed it.

The author’s writing was easy to read, smooth and with a good rhythm, which also contributes to this book’ success.

I cannot wait to read the second volume in the coming weeks, as well as watching the movie, which seems quite good from what I saw in the official trailer.

J’ai enfin pris le temps de me plonger dans le premier tome de cette trilogie qui fait tant parler d’elle ! Et je dois dire que je ne le regrette pas.

J’ai passé un bon moment en compagnie de Tris, Four et leurs autres compagnons, ce livre était un très bon choix pour commencer mes congés et donc déconnecter du train-train habituel.

J’ai trouvé l’univers post-apocalyptique bien construit, l’auteure n’en dit ni trop peu (on ne se sent pas perdu) ni trop (donc pas de longues descriptions interminables et ennuyeuses à souhait). Très vite, on apprend que cette société « parfaite » fonctionne avec différentes factions (Altruiste, Audacieux, Sincère, Érudit et Fraternel) et cela n’a pas été sans me rappeler dans un sens les différents districts de Hunger Games. La cérémonie du choix m’y a fait penser aussi, sans toutefois me déranger puisque j’ai tout simplement adoré le premier film (oui je sais… je n’ai toujours pas lu les livres… ne me lynchez pas !)

Au niveau des personnages, on va donc suivre plus particulièrement Tris (qui est la narratrice), mais aussi tous les autres candidats initiés de la faction des Audacieux. Tris m’a semblé parfois un peu trop timorée pour être dans la faction des Audacieux, mais cette dualité/hésitation/remise en question la rend plus crédible et plus attachante. Elle découvre un mode de vie qui lui était inconnu jusqu’alors et j’ai trouvé son adaptation bien amenée par l’auteure.

Les autres personnages apportent tous à leur manière quelque chose, et aucun ne m’a rendue indifférente. Certains m’ont touchée, d’autres m’ont révulsée, ou encore charmée…
La romance entre certains personnages apporte un peu de légèreté à tout cet univers somme toute assez pesant et sombre, et même si elle m’a semblé évidente depuis le début, voire cliché, ça ne m’a pas dérangée.

J’ai globalement passé un bon moment de détente avec ce livre qui comporte beaucoup d’éléments pouvant plaire à un public adolescent ou jeune adulte (action, suspense, romance, quête…) Certains éléments étaient certes un peu trop « téléphonés » et évidents pour un public plus adulte, mais il n’en reste pas moins que ce livre m’a apporté ce que j’en attendais, à savoir une déconnexion totale de la routine et à ce titre, je l’ai beaucoup apprécié.

L’écriture de l’auteure était facile à lire, fluide et bien rythmée, ce qui contribue aussi au large succès de ce roman.

J’en découvrirai la suite avec plaisir dans les semaines à suivre, ainsi que l’adaptation cinématographique, qui m’a l’air assez réussie après avoir vu la bande-annonce.
